To Whom it May Concern:
When I told some of my friends and family 11 months ago I was starting to work with a Holistic Nutritionist, they were shocked. I am an Engineer by training, and typically stick to only ‘proven’ forms of modern medicine and would rather stick with those ‘proven’ systems. At the time, I was part way through a transformation of my own, working within the confines of a medical program for weight loss.
At 8-weeks into my 12-week medical program Dianne Levine and I met for the first time. It was clear to me that the medical program was not aligned with my own needs from week 12 forward. The focus of the medical program was the Canada Food Guide and I instinctively knew it was not a fit for me.
My first impression when meeting Dianne was very positive. Dianne was clear that while I was under medical supervision – even though she didn’t prefer the program I was on – we were not going to make any changes. We would only take action once the medical program had ended. It was at that moment that I understood that Dianne’s focus was to put my needs ahead of her own desire to see me on a different path. Dianne understood that I had just started my journey – something I didn’t quite realize at the time – and that there would be time to continue that journey, in a healthier way for my body, once the medical program was complete.
Over the next four weeks, Dianne and I began devising a meal plan using real food. The goal was to create a plan that I could live with for the rest of my life. We started small and, over our six months working together, the program grew into a comprehensive diet of healthy eating and living. As I transitioned into the healthy diet, she encouraged me to be mindful in everything I was doing – not just what I was eating. Dianne encouraged meditation and on several occasions worked with me on meditation skills. Her caring and attention to my needs was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced from another medical practitioner.
Now almost a year later, I can look back and see how Dianne’s guidance was a critical component in my success. While the numbers say I’ve lost 150 pounds, what is much more important is that I’ve found a way to sustain that loss, I’ve found a healthy way of eating to support my lifestyle, and most recently I’ve found a place for mindfulness through Karate – a sport I’ve just taken up in the last month.
Thank you Dianne for all the support you’ve provided me this past year. I look forward to continuing to work together for years to come.
